Liverpool chairman Werner reveals talks with Hodgson, senior players

Liverpool's new owners held talks with manager Roy Hodgson and senior players yesterday after completing their takeover.

New England Sports Ventures co-owners John W Henry and Tom Warner completed their £300million Kop take-over on Friday.

Yesterday the two Americans met with Hodgson, skipper Steven Gerrard and several senior players as Liverpool finished their preparations for today's Merseyside derby at Goodison.

They will hold further talks with Hodgson tomorrow, when they will give him all the guarantees he craves about his role at the club - and the cash that will be made available for team rebuilding in the January window.

New Reds chairman Thomas Werner said: "This isn't London or Manchester but, thankfully, Liverpool is a global club so we will look to increase revenues globally.

"We had lunch with a few of them. Steven [Gerrard] sat next to us and said he was happy that there was now leadership here. We wanted to reassure him that we would be doing everything to improve the situation.

"They seem to be optimistic today. There's great morale in the club, it's very positive and we are encouraged."
