Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard accepts the 2014 World Cup will be the last chance of international glory for himself.
England have struggled to get close to challenging for a trophy during Gerrard's time involved.
He said: "The lads will agree the next big challenge for us is to get to the World Cup. And it will certainly be the last one for me, Frank and Ash. It's a very difficult level to play at once you get into your thirties. Let's hope we can finish off with a successful tournament; that's the plan.
"That's the reason we are sticking about and why we are still here. We've all had successful careers with our clubs, but we're desperate to achieve something with England.
"The country would go wild if we had a successful tournament. I look back on my England career with frustration and disappointment because we lost a penalty shoot-out in the last eight again (against Italy at Euro 2012).
"We wanted to change the record and it's happened too many times since I've been involved."
