Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers admits dealing with the fallout of Luis Suarez's biting incident last season was a test of his management ability.
Suarez faces Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic today for the first time since the infamous clash.
"It was a real test. You don't learn about those situations on coaching courses," said Rodgers.
"We had a conversation that will remain private, of course, but I felt he needed to get away as soon as he could and I sent him to his wife's family in Barcelona. He needed to get out of the country.
"He was sorry straight away. Although I don't think it was anything premeditated, there is no doubt that was the lowest moment of his career.
"He probably felt the world was against him and that has provided the trigger for him to recuperate."
