After defeat at Tottenham, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has warned the January transfer window will be no quick-fix.
With talk turning to potential reinforcements, Rodgers refuted the notion that the next transfer window will provide an immediate fix - and highlighted tonight's opponents as an example to follow.
"January won't be the answer to everything, this is a process that's going to take time. Look at this Tottenham squad here, we've all seen this build up over the last three or four years," the 39-year-old told liverpoolfc.com.
"It's taken them six or seven windows and they've got a really strong squad. We're at the beginning of a cycle that will hopefully take us there.
"While we're still defining our game, we'll lose some matches like tonight. Our performance level was very encouraging."
