Liverpool boss Rodgers wants THREE striker signings in January

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers wants THREE new strikers in January - but not Andy Carroll.

Rodgers is desperate for fresh firepower and has been given the go-ahead to spend, spend, spend with Luis Suarez currently the Kop's only fit senior striker.

He will head the queue for Arsenal and England forward Theo Walcott if Arsene Wenger cannot persuade the 23-year-old to sign a fresh deal by the New Year.

But despite the striker crisis, £35m misfit Andy Carroll, farmed out to West Ham by Rodgers, won't be packing his bags and heading back to Merseyside. Liverpool have the option to recall Carroll in January in case of emergency - and the alarm bells have rung since Rodgers failed to net a replacement, says the Daily Star.

Yet Rodgers admitted: "That is not something I have considered at this moment.

"Andy said when we spoke that he wanted to play and I haven't thought that will change if he comes back.

"There is no point me bringing him back if he is not going to be playing games when he is playing games week in, week out for West Ham."
