Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was satisfied with his players after their defeat to AS Roma in Boston.
Liverpool looked slick at times against opponents that boasted a significant fitness advantage and there were more glimpses that his methods are beginning to sink in.
"I have to say I was very pleased," said Rodgers. "There were real positives in the game. Roma are ahead of us in their preparations and I was very impressed with them but this was step up and just what we needed.
"Once we get our top quality players back, the England players who have only just returned from holiday, you will see another step up.
"It was good to see the younger lads get some minutes under their belts. It was a really positive experience."
