Liverpool boss Rodgers taking early morning training to shed the pounds

Liverpool's slimline manager Brendan Rodgers has been taking early morning training to shed the pounds.

The Mail on Sunday says Rodgers has been undergoing his own fitness programme at the club's Melwood training ground before his players arrive for work.

Rodgers has lost noticeable weight since the end of last season after introducing his new regime of turning up to Melwood at half-past seven every morning and running on his own around the club's various training pitches.

Rodgers has always valued his personal fitness and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 2011 to raise funds for the Marie Curie cancer fund.

A stressful first season at Anfield which followed the death of both his parents led to the 40-year-old piling on the pounds but this season has seen a change in attitude to reflect the revolution that is taking place at the club.
