Liverpool boss Rodgers hits out at Sunderland's Poyet

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has hit out at Sunderland rival Gus Poyet.

Suarez has plundered 28 Premier League goals this season and his fellow Uruguayan Poyet intimated that Liverpool were over-reliant on the striker.

"Someone said that if we didn't have Luis Suarez's goals we would be mid-table which was probably quite disrespectful to the other players," said Rodgers.

"Because at various times in my time here we have had Luis out and won games, we have had Steven (Gerrard) out and won games, we have had Philippe Coutinho out and won games and we have had Daniel Sturridge out and won games.

"So what we are really building is the collective. And actually when Luis was playing the team finished eighth and seventh, so it is not just about one player. It is about creating a collective spirit and quality to our game and that is what we have done."
