Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers feels Steven Gerrard is now the best in the world in his new midfield role. Rodgers has hailed him as the best holding midfielder in Europe.
"Steven is such a wonderful human being and so much is made of his obvious leadership qualities that his form and the way he is performing in his new role sometimes gets lost a wee bit," he said. "We mustn't forget that he is arguably the best in European football in this controlling role at the moment.
"There are not many who can do what he can do, which is be one of the best attacking midfield players in Europe and then switch to be the best controlling player.
"You look across Europe now at the holding players in the top teams and I would not swap him for any of them. He is a playmaker who is unique in that he can also defend and he doesn't get enough credit for his ability to read the game."
