Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is chasing Cardiff City captain Steven Caulker.
The Sunday Mirror says Rodgers gave him his Premier League break during a season-long loan at Swansea two years ago.
Tottenham have first option on buying back Caulker, as part of the deal they struck to sell the England player to the Bluebirds for £9million last summer.
But while Tim Sherwood wants him to return, the current manager is almost certain to leave White Hart Lane at the end of this season, and chairman Daniel Levy has reservations about bringing back Caulker.
