Liverpool boss positive ahead of Real Madrid clash

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was remaining in a positive mind-frame despite losing 1-0 to Newcastle United on Saturday.

The Reds dropped to ninth on the Premier League table after losing for the fourth time in the league this season but Rodgers was hoping to return to form when his side travels to Real Madrid on Tuesday.

Liverpool currently sit third on the Group B table of Europe's premier club competition and are in desperate need of at least a point when they meet reigning champions Real at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"We have worked very hard for a couple of years to get to this level and playing against Real Madrid in the Bernabeu says we've been doing okay," said Rodgers.

"We are in a transitional phase and have to do better. It's a wonderful game for us. It is a big week against the best in the world at the moment. We will go into the game hoping to get something out of it."
