Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has ruled out selling Emre Can in January.
Can is running down his deal and can leave for nothing in June.
Klopp is desperate to extend the 23-year-old's stay at Anfield and is willing to wait until the last available opportunity.
“I said he could still sign a contract in May," Klopp told reporters during his press conference before Saturday's clash with Chelsea.
“We want to keep him. We have to be as attractive as possible as a club."
Klopp has also taken the same stand for Daniel Sturridge.
The England striker, 28, has been linked with AC Milan and a number of Premier League clubs. He is understood to be open to quitting Liverpool in a bid to salvage his World Cup hopes.
"There's nothing to say here about it," said Klopp. "You can't expect an answer. It's normal he wants to play more.
"In this moment it is a definite 'no' to him leaving."
