Liverpool boss Klopp tribute to Everton defender Coleman for Cox donation

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp paid tribute to Everton defender Seamus Coleman in his match programme notes on Sunday.

Klopp revealed how Coleman has been supporting Sean Cox, the Irish Liverpool supporter who was seriously injured in a savage attack by Roma fans before a Champions League match last year.

Coleman made a €5,000 donation to the fund-raising appeal of his fellow Irishman, who is still recovering in hospital from the incident which occurred in April.

Klopp wrote, "I'd like to start these notes by thanking Seamus Coleman for the solidarity he has shown in supporting Sean Cox as he continues on his long road to recovery from the injury he so tragically sustained while visiting Liverpool from Ireland to support our club in a football match.

"I know Seamus embodies the Everton spirit of wanting to beat LFC on the pitch as much as any other player they have, but his actions in looking to help the Cox family demonstrates what the best qualities of rivalries are. On the pitch fierce, off the pitch shared values of community.

"Whether it be Hillsborough, donations to foodbanks for the local area or individual situations - like the serious human struggles which Sean and his family are facing - Everton and Liverpool stand shoulder-to-shoulder when it really matters.

"I know many other Everton fans followed Seamus' lead and to all of those we, as Liverpool, are grateful."
