Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp erred on the side of caution when asked about the recent development on Mamadou Sakho's doping case.
The French defender was cleared of taking a performance-enhancing substance by UEFA last Friday, but the World-Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has warned him that they can still challenge UEFA's verdict.
The 26-year-old is currently nursing a long-standing Achilles problem and is expected to miss the start of the season for the Reds.
Klopp said: "I cannot say too much as a manager. I don't know exactly what will happen now from Mama's side or UEFA's side.
"But as a human being I can say it's a sad story. He didn't play now for three and a half months. That's obviously not really cool but we all know is that doping is a very, very serious thing and we cannot have that.
"But I am sure they tried to do right thing. Others have to talk about this because I don't know what I am allowed or able to say."
