Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp talks up Rhian Brewster: He has the lot - except a suit!

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is delighted with what he's seen from teenage striker Rhian Brewster.

Brewster, 17, was on the bench for last weekend's game against Crystal Palace.

Klopp said: “Rhian made outstanding steps in the last few months because the Talent Group is training once a week here at Melwood with Pep Lijnders and I can see them. I've followed him for more than a year and as it is for boys of his age they grow, it's good.

"Physically stronger, wonderfully skilled boy, real striker, good finisher, fantastic work ethic and all that stuff.

“But if all players are fit he will not be in the squad, of course not, why should he? He's 17 years old now and already plays U21 youth football (U23). He'll do this next year also and that's a wonderful step for him and is the next stage in his development.

“All is good but if all the other players are fit Rhian is not involved in the matchday squad.

But he was on the bench last week because we thought he deserved it and we could use him in the right moment. It was not (the right moment) for this but that does not mean it will not happen again in the future.

Klopp revealed there was just one problem when he told Brewster he was going to be in the squad last week.

“He was excited about it, he was happy about it. He told me afterwards when I said to him he was in the squad and did he have all the things like a washbag he said 'yes but I don't have a suit!' No problem - I don't like the suit too much so it's not a problem.

"I would have preferred to wear the same thing he did. That was the only difference, he has a lot of respect in the squad, nobody thought 'who's this?'

“They know him because he's a difficult opponent in a training session, so all good and I'm sure it was nice."
