Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has offered the carrot of Europa League action to his youngsters ahead of Wednesday's friendly.
Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Pepe Reina, Fernando Torres and Dirk Kuyt have already been ruled out of the first leg against FC Rabotnicki of Macedonia or Armenians FC Mika on July 29.
So Kop boss Hodgson will use Wednesday's friendly with Grasshoppers to see who can step up from the fringes.
He said: "We'll have to see if we've enough players to put a team out without them."
