Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is delighted with their capture of Juventus midfielder Christian Poulsen.
Hodgson admits the Dane was one of his top transfer targets - and he is delighted to have landed a player he believes can make a telling contribution in 2010-11.
The manager told a press conference at Melwood: "Christian is an all-round player. He is capable of scoring goals, a good passer of the ball and a good defender too. I don't see him being limited to one particular role.
"He has enormous experience at the very highest level. He has almost 80 caps for Denmark and played at top clubs like Sevilla, Schalke and Juventus.
"For me, it was a very simple decision when I heard he might be available at what we considered to be a very reasonable price.
"We need as many good players as we can get and if you let these opportunities pass you by, sometimes you can regret it.
"Christian is a quality player and we want quality players at Liverpool because we try to play football through the midfield. Liverpool have always been a passing team, a team that prides itself on its ability to pass the ball and support each other, and there's going to be no change in that style whether I'm the manager or anyone else is the manager.
"Poulsen is a good quality passer and supporter, and he'll fit in nicely with the way we try to play."
