Liverpool boss Dalglish questions Man City principles over mega spending

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish says he has no idea what Manchester City want to achieve with their mega transfer spending.

Dalglish describes comparisons between City - backed by Abu Dhabi billionaire Sheikh Mansour - and his time at Blackburn Rovers as nonsense.

He revealed: "Back then I think it was a good line that we were spending fortunes.

"But we weren't spending fortunes at all so I would think if you compare Blackburn to Man City it's a complete and utter mis-match in financial terms.

"The principle is a complete and utter mis-match so there's no comparison between the two, either the levels of the money - even proportionate to what it was in those days to what it is now - and the principle.

"In those days all we wanted was to be successful and we bought some good players.

"But I know what came in and I know what Blackburn spent on players and you can't tell me they never made a profit on any of the big ones.

"Our principle at Blackburn was to improve us. I don't know what City's principle is. I was never under pressure to win the league at Blackburn.

"We never said we were going to win anything. We just said we were going to improve. And we did.

"And if you go through the boys who came in, we did improve them and then they moved on and they improved the balance sheet as well."
