Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish doesn't believe today's clashes with Everton are as frenetic as yesteryear.
Dalglish does not believe the modern-day meetings are anywhere near as fierce as the times he spent dodging the flying tackles and bone-jarring challenges.
The Kop boss said: "It was frenetic, for sure, but football has changed since the 1970s and 1980s.
"It's less physical and there is certainly far more punishment for the players who want to be physical.
"And, because of that, it's become a little more pleasing on the eye.
"Football is less of a contact sport than it was back then, so it's a wee bit more attractive.
"I can still remember my first game in the Merseyside derby, although I can't remember seeing the ball at all.
"But there didn't used to be many sendings off. I think they sent the ball off a few times!
"It's certainly easier to be sent off than it used to be before - and that has helped it become more pleasing."
