Liverpool boss Dalglish defends Wenger over lack of Arsenal silverware

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish believes the trophy talk aimed at Arsenal has been over the top.

Dalglish wrote in his column for the Mail on Sunday: "Arsene (Wenger) will know it's important for him to win a trophy. It's a statement of fact that it has been six years since it happened. But I still don't think the lack of silverware undermines Wenger in any way.

"The job he has done is magnificent and I'm sure everyone at Arsenal, players, owners and fans, are grateful. There are only four trophies to win each season, so Wenger is not alone in being empty-handed in recent years. He has produced fantastic teams to watch; week in, week out Arsenal put on a show.

"You will always get people complaining about trophies but in my eyes he doesn't deserve anything less than total respect. He won't be overly concerned by outside pressure anyway: he'll be putting on the pressure himself to win."
