Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish says he tried everything possible to convince Fernando Torres to stay.
Torres left Liverpool for Chelsea on Monday.
Dalglish said: "Of course I spoke to him. I did what you thought I would do, what everybody hoped I would do.
"I did my job properly and correctly, and we were disappointed that he left. But he has gone. That was his decision, and the thing is, we didn't mope around. We got out and did the business.
"We were disappointed that he chose not to stay, and with the timing, but we have to get on with it. The most important thing is the way we reacted to it. That is great credit to everybody.
"Once he made his decision, we had to deal with it, get on with it and look after ourselves. We've done that already. For us, all in all, Monday was a very good day's business.
"It does not matter where you stand, whether you win trophies or you don't win trophies, footballers will always find a reason to go.
"Movement is part and parcel of the game. We just have to expect it, deal with it as best as you possibly can and get on with your life."
