Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has offered three senior players plus cash to Aston Villa for Gareth Barry, it has been revealed.

The bid arrived on Thursday at Villa Park and sparked a furious blast from Villa boss Martin O'Neill over Liverpool's actions.

"I shall be speaking to Liverpool about it. I'm disappointed in them. When I was younger they were the one club where you never got a thing out of them until it was done," said O'Neill.

"It's not the way you want to be conducting business. It is not the way the Liverpool of old used to do business."

The Daily Mail says Reds boss Rafa Benitez offered a choice of Jermaine Pennant, John Arne Riise and Scott Carson plus cash for Barry.
