Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has defended his reliance on the Spanish transfer market.

He explained to El Mundo Deportivo: "The fact that we turn to the Spanish market is because we know it well. Arsene Wenger (Arsenal) buys a lot in the French market because he knows it and Jose Mourinho (Chelsea) bought Portuguese, in the beginning, because he came from there.

"We have scouts around the world to choose good players. But it is one thing to choose a player and another thing to choose a professional footballer. In order to know the person well you need a lot of information and, sometimes, in other countries you do not have it and in Spain we know we do."
