Liverpool boss Benitez calls for video evidence over bad tackles

Rafa Benitez believes video evidence is the obvious answer to the current debate on two-footed tackles.

In recent weeks, several players have been given straight red cards for having both feet off the ground while making tackles, including Chelsea's Ricardo Carvalho and Reading's Brynjar Gunnarsson.

And, while the Liverpool boss believes there are occasionally horror tackles that deserve instant dismissals, it is often best to give the player a yellow card and then use video evidence to punish them retrospectively where necessary.

"I feel that it's clear," the Liverpool chief told Sky Sports News.

"It must be a red card in some games, and you can use the video evidence now. If a player does a bad tackle, he can see a yellow card - I know you can analyse the tackle and if it's a three-game ban, it's a three-game ban, no problem.

"The next time, the next player will think, 'Be careful - the video is there'."

Benitez feels that, as referees cannot always be in the right place to make an appropriate judgement, relying on video evidence will make their jobs easier.

"The referee maybe cannot see the situation, but if the video is there the player will be careful and it will be easier for the referees."
