Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez yesterday took aim at fans away from Anfield who have been criticising midfielder Lucas Leiva.
In the 4-1 win over Benfica, the Brazilian delivered one of his best displays for the club and, as well as scoring the second goal, played a key role in the fourth.
That earned up a thumbs up signal from Benitez as the players celebrated.
The manager hopes 23-year-old Lucas will now start to earn some recognition from a wider audience, particularly the armchair supporters who often call phone-ins.
Benitez said: "It was a great tackle and he was doing really well.
"When you have a player who has worked so hard, playing well and scoring goals - I was really pleased for him.
"I think the fans in the stadium can see Lucas running and working hard. They know he is doing a great job.
"Some people maybe watching on TV, comfortable on their sofas, just pick up the phone and criticise.
"We are not talking about a player like (Steven) Gerrard or (Fernando) Torres but we are playing an important player for the team."
