Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez revealed Fernando Torres played with an ankle injury for the hour he contributed to last night's 1-0 Champions League victory at Real Madrid.

Referring to Torres' injury, Benitez said: "It was in the first minute, I could see he was not fully fit and it could be a risk for the next few games (if he had stayed on)."

He also said: "We knew it could be very difficult, they had a lot of confidence and we needed to work very hard.

"At the end we scored a very good goal, without Gerrard, without Torres."
