Liverpool boos Klopp scuppers Galatasaray plans to sign Lucas Leiva

Jurgen Klopp has reportedly pulled the pin on Lucas Leiva's mooted transfer to Galatasaray.

The Daily Mirror reports that Klopp has denied the Brazilian's move to the Turkish giants at the 11th hour.

It is understood that the German manager is concerned by his depth in midfield and is eager to keep Lucas at Anfield for the 2016/17.

The 29-year-old can also operate at centre-back if required which has prompted Klopp to keep him around as he deals with a shortage of available central defenders.

Galatasaraysporting director Levent Nazifoglu revealed the news, saying: "We are no longer pursuing Lucas Leiva.

"We will continue efforts to sign alternative names instead."
