Liverpool attacker Salah named African Player of the Year

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been crowned African Player of the Year at the Confederation of African Football awards gala in Accra, Ghana.

The Egypt international beat the likes of Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane of Senegal as well as Borussia Dortmund and Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the award.

Salah enjoyed a stellar 2017 for both club and country.

He has been in great form since joining Liverpool from Roma during the summer and has already scored 24 goals for the Reds in all competitions this season.

He also scored both goals for the Egypt national team as they secured qualification for the 2018 World Cup after beating Congo 2-1.

"I think we have a good national team and we did very well in the Africa Cup and qualification for World Cup," said Salah before the awards ceremony.

"We deserved that, everyone saw that and I am very happy and very excited for the World Cup and I am very sure we are going to do something special at the World Cup."
