Schalke are no closer to securing Lewis Holtby to a new contract.

The Germany U21 winger is inside the final 12 months of his current deal and can sign a pre-contract with a foreign club from January 1.

Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal have all been linked with Holtby in recent months.

The youngster has an English father and said: "I'm German and English and have followed the Premier League forever. It is clear I'd like to play there."
