Jose Segura will take over the academy technical manager's role at Liverpool in the summer. The 48-year-old left the manager's post at Greek side Olympiacos last year, after winning two league titles, and will take up his new post with the Reds on June 1.

The Spaniard also held the position of assistant academy director at Spanish giants Barcelona, where he helped in the development of Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

He has also been instrumental in the development of players including Andres Iniesta, Victor Valdes, Gerard Pique, Bojan Krkic and Mikel Arteta.

Reds boss Rafael Benitez told the club's official website: "There's a lot to do at the Academy, but we've worked hard to bring in the best people and Jose is a great appointment.

"He's worked with some of the top young talent in Spain and knows the challenges faced in bringing through players to the first team set-up. He's also got experience at the top, after his success with Olympiacos, and I'm delighted that he's agreed to join us."
