Liverpool to announce Hodgson as new manager Thursday

Liverpool are set to name Fulham boss Roy Hodgson their new manager on Thursday. The 62-year-old has been the favourite to replace Rafael Benítez since the Spaniard left Anfield in June. And with the Liverpool board granted permission to hold talks with Hodgson by his current club Fulham, the BBC claims that a deal is now only dependant on both sides agreeing a compensation deal.

"Hodgson has always been the number one target of the board at Anfield to replace Benítez," said Ian Dennis, BBC Radio 5 live's senior football reporter.

"After Fulham granted Liverpool permission to speak to Hodgson, it was just a matter of the clubs agreeing a compensation deal for him."
