The pair are together this week in the Holland squad and both featured in last night's defeat in France.
"Frenkie is a great player, he did a good job," Wijnaldum said. "Frenkie makes it easier for us by the way he plays football.
"He plays in a daring way.
"It does not surprise me. A lot has been written about him lately, so I've been watching how he plays at Ajax."
De Jong has been linked with Tottenham and Barcelona, but Wijnaldum has urged him not to rush things.
He added: "He is doing very well now, but we have often had Dutch players who first played very well, but later became less. Often it is often called: he can do this and that, he can become so good. Frenkie is 21 years old, anything can happen."
