Liverpool ace Gerrard insists England can handle absences

Liverpool's England captain Steven Gerrard insists they can handle their star absences at the Euros.

Chelsea star Frank Lampard and Manchester City's Gareth Barry are both out injured.

Gerrard, who will win his 92nd cap today, said: "People are obviously going to wonder whether we can cope without Frank and Gareth - and other younger players like Jack Wilshere and Tom Cleverley.

"But we can't control what people say and think.

"So we are just going to have to get on with it and give it our best shot.

"We're all aware that we've under-delivered in previous tournaments.

"Despite that, we've got to make sure that we not only enjoy the Euros but the whole journey.

"When it comes down to it, these tournaments are the best times for a player.

"OK, when you go home early - as we've done so many times over the last few years - they're not the best.

"I understand that. But preparing for these tournaments, being out there just being part of it, this is the stuff you dream about as a young boy.

"And though my own memories haven't been good, I can still tell you I've enjoyed every single experience."
