Liverpool ace Gerrard happy with England midfield role

England captain Steven Gerrard feels comfortable going into the World Cup in his new role.

At Liverpool Gerrard has mastered a deeper midfield role and the authority he has shown in that position is something Roy Hodgson values.

"When I first moved into the position I felt it was slightly too early," he told the Daily Mail. "Because I've still got energy in my game, I feel I can still can get box-to-box.

"Brendan (Rodgers) mentioned the role to me in the first conversation we had. It wasn't something that was sprung on me with two or three days' notice.

"After four or five games I felt I'd adapted well and I actually started to enjoy it.

"My form has been good since playing there - it's probably been one of my most consistent seasons."
