Gerrard hopes to one day follow in the footsteps of manager Roy Hodgson.
He said: “Of course you think about it. I’m going to do my coaching badges after my England days are finished and we’ll see where it goes.
“I have always said I will only be a coach or a manager if I feel I am good enough.
“I don’t think you do it because you’ve been a decent player. That’s a mistake a lot of footballers have made.
“You get your badges first but it doesn’t mean that you will be able to manage.”
