Liverpool ace Gerrard admits he lost it celebrating England goal

Liverpool ace Steven Gerrard admits he 'lost it' after scoring for England in their victory over Hungary.

The England captain went on a mad celebratory run after he equalised with a ferocious 69th-minute drive, admitting he was overcome with relief.

And his winner four minutes later prompted another crazed celebration as he tried to whip up support among the Wembley crowd, urging them to cheer on the team.

He said: "I did get lost in the celebration because it was a feeling of relief. This team and everyone involved in the World Cup has taken a lot of criticism.

"To get an equaliser and win the game was a feeling of relief. I got carried away a bit but I showed what it means to play for England and to score for England.

"In the end we gave the fans what they wanted. When you play games like this and you're expected to roll teams over, it's really tough if you don't get an early breakthrough.

"But a lot of teams would have felt sorry for themselves after going a goal down, and would have lost the game 1-0.

"We showed a lot of character, with a lot of young lads in the team. We can be proud of ourselves."
