Liverpool academy chief John Owens insists they will continue to target local players for their squad.
Danish goalkeeper Martin Hansen became the first foreigner to join the Reds academy last year and Owens told liverpoolfc.tv: "The academy principle is to have as many local boys as you can in your teams. If there is then a deficit in certain positions, we can top up with quality boys from distance and sometimes other countries.
"Doing this brings certain problems, like language and homesickness. They have to live with house parents in the area, and you also have to think about education. So when you are looking at bringing players from abroad, you need to be sure they are really adding something to the squad."
