Liverpool academy boss John Owens says Marvin Pourie's move to Schalke is a good one for the young striker.

He told liverpoolfc.tv: "We had been in negotiations with a number of clubs in Germany regarding his future. He's made it to the national team in his under-19 age group and as a result he has impressed a number of clubs over there.

"We had some discussions about it here and decided that it was probably best for him to go back and play in Germany. We are looking after the interests of Liverpool FC but also the player himself.

"FC Schalke made their interest concrete and the deal went through earlier this week. We wish him all the best and hope he goes on to do well."
