Mexico manager Juan Carlos Osorio has revealed what he told his players before Sunday's stunning 1-0 victory over Germany.

Hirving Lozano's first-half strike was enough to defeat the current holders, who looked underwhelming against their more desperate opponents.

And some of their tenacity may have to do with the motivation Osorio gave his players prior to kick-off.

"I told them to play for the love of winning," Osorio told reporters in his post-match press conference. "And not the fear of losing."

It was the Mexicans first win over Germany since 1985 and they now have a good chance of finishing in one of the two top spots in Group F.
