Live from Cobham: Conte only ever focused on Chelsea success

COMMENT: Antonio Conte wasn't going to use what could potentially be his last pre-match press conference as Chelsea manager to talk about himself.

His discontent with the club's transfer strategy, which began last summer, only gathered steam throughout a disappointing season in which the reigning champions finished fifth.

But as Conte has stressed on multiple occasions, his focus has remained on working hard to try and win football matches.

And speaking at Cobham on Friday, he had only one thought in mind - beating Manchester United in tomorrow's FA Cup final.

Quizzed on if this would be his last game as Blues manager, Conte replied: "I can tell for sure this will be my last match this season. For me and my players it will be the last game, for us.

"Then, as you know very well, I have a contract and I'm committed to the club."

Then pressed if he expected a summer of change, Conte continued: "I don't know.

"For sure I think we must be focused on tomorrow's game. For us this game is very important because we have, in a difficult season, to finish the season with a trophy.

"It's always important for the players, for the coach, for the manager, for our fans, for the club, to finish the season with a trophy.

"We're focused on this target. We have to try to do everything to win the game tomorrow."

Some have questioned Conte's commitment this season. Conspiracy theorists even believe he has baited Roman Abramovich to sack him with certain team selections.

However, all this talk counteracts what the inner sanctum at Chelsea has told us - that Conte is a determined, meticulous and attentive manager who will stop at nothing to win.

And if his short stint in England ends after the final whistle at Wembley tomorrow, this is how the Italian should be remembered. A wildly passionate and committed manager who gave his all for Chelsea.
