Lippi frustrated by Italy performance

Italy coach Marcello Lippi was visibly upset after their 1-1 draw with minnows New Zealand yesterday.

The Azzurri fought back from a Shane Smeltz opener with Vincenzo Iaquinta's penalty in the 1-1 draw with New Zealand.

"It was a struggle and again started badly, as for the second time we conceded at the first ball punted hopefully into the box," said the Coach.

"We dominated, which was normal even if it had been 0-0, and put in a lot of effort. That certainly wasn't lacking, but we were missing some sharpness and initiative from some players.

"We hit the woodwork and created some chances, but considering the domination overall we didn't create nearly enough.

"It wasn't wise to continue putting in crosses when the New Zealand defenders were 2m tall. Every game is difficult in this World Cup, now we must win the final match if we want to keep going forward."
