Lionel Messi hits double as Barcelona thump Eibar

Barcelona ace Lionel Messi struck twice in their 4-0 win at Eibar.

Munir El Haddadi wasted no time in putting Luis Enrique's side ahead after eight minutes, and Messi doubled their lead just before half-time.

Messi then added a penalty in the second half after Eibar defender Ivan Ramis was deemed to have handled in the area, before Luis Suarez notched a late fourth.

The win maintains Barcelona's eight-point lead at the top of La Liga after Atletico Madrid won 3-1 at Valencia later on Sunday.

Barca coach Luis Enrique said: “We are where we are because of the work we've put in. The decisive period is coming up and we're playing for three titles. There are a lot of points still in play. We've seen the team evolve and always maintain their ambition, and the sensations at the moment are very positive.

“Everything went well for us. We were able to withstand their high pressure, when they sat back etc… We're playing well in every area and in every game. The players that came in did very well."
