Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling has claimed that the extra-time strike from Jesse Lingard in the FA Cup final was worthy of winning any match.
The 26-year-old, who was sent off in the 105th minute of the come-from-behind 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Wembley, also believes Lingard's match-winner was a fitting end to a season which has featured so many promising United youngsters.
He said: "We have looked to a lot of the young players to turn up this season and quite often they have in those big games.
"I'm buzzing for Jesse because it was a great strike worth of winning any game.
"I think it helps when there's a number of them [into the team together] and you're not the only one and might be a little overawed.
"There's so many young ones getting a chance and picking up their first trophy is going to give them great belief going into next season."
