Manchester United star Jesse Lingard believes that friendlies against Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund during the China tour will provide stern tests for Jose Mourinho's side ahead of next season.

The Red Devils are set to play German giants Dortmund in Shanghai and crosstown rivals City in Beijing during their trip to the Far East next month.

"I think it will help us," he told manutd.com.

"We play City throughout the season and we know Dortmund are a strong side. These are the teams you want to play against because they really test you."

Asked if the derby meeting against Pep Guardiola's side will be played as a friendly, Lingard said: "Definitely not! It'll be a proper game.

"The season is only around the corner at that point and we'll have to prepare right."
