England legend Gary Lineker has slammed last night's performance against the Republic of Ireland.
Former Three Lions skipper Lineker issued a damning verdict after Frank Lampard rescued a 1-1 Wembley draw with the Republic of Ireland.
Lineker tweeted: "This is a step back to the dark ages. Predictable and dated."
England, who resembled Franz Beckenbauer's 1974 World Cup winners in their new kit last night, take on Brazil in Rio on Sunday.
And Lineker declared: "Brazil will thrash us if we line up the same way. Don't like England playing this system. So easy to play against."
Lineker reckons the Three Lions have taken a step back with boss Roy Hodgson's preference for a 4-4-2 formation.
And the Match of the Day host added: "Even though results haven't been great, I felt tactically England were maturing, but this is a step back to the dark ages of two lines of four.
"It's not about playing in straight lines, it's about playing between the lines."
