Chicago Fire have acquired Joel Lindpere from New York Red Bull in exchange for an international roster spot.
The 31-year old Estonian midfielder heads to Chicago after making 97 appearances for the Red Bulls following his 2010 move from Tromso.
"Joel is a versatile, dependable player that has proven himself in MLS,” Fire president of soccer operations Javier Leon said in a statement. “He will provide a dynamic presence to our team in 2013 as we look to return to the MLS Cup Playoffs.”
Fire’s vice president of soccer operations, Guillermo Petrei, suggests that Lindpere will add plenty of depth to the clubs midfield.
“When we recruit these players, it’s crowded if you look at midfielders, but most of them play different roles. So we feel we can put our best players on the field and play well.
“[He’s] a player that has proven a lot. He’s a player that wants to stay in the US and wants to keep playing in the league, which is a very good attitude.”
