Lewy just for starters as Man Utd boss Ferguson plans signing spree

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is set to go on a major summer spending spree, with a new striker and several new midfielders under consideration.Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski is Ferguson's top attacking transfer target, but his plans do not begin and end with the Pole.

The Telegraph says with Anderson and Nani expected to be sold, Paul Scholes likely to retire this summer and continuing doubts over the future of Wayne Rooney, Lewandowski is unlikely to be the only high-profile arrival sought by Ferguson, who completed a £12 million deal for Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha in January.

Porto's attacking midfielder James Rodriguez is admired by Ferguson, while Tottenham Hotspur 's Gareth Bale is another who would command interest should he choose to move in the event of Spurs failing to qualify for the Champions League.

Everton defender Leighton Baines may also re-emerge as a target after being monitored for the past 18 months.
