Leverkusen's Son hoping wonder goal can re-build confidence

Son Heung-min scored a wonderful goal as Bayer Leverkusen defeated Borussia Monchengladbach 1-0 on Friday.

The South Korean netted his eighth goal of the Bundesliga season when firing into the top right corner from outside the area just after the hour-mark at Stadion im Borussia-Park.

The victory saw second-placed die Werkself remain 13 points behind runaway leaders Bayern Munich and Son's goal was his first since the December 7 winner at Borussia Dortmund. The former Hamburg ace is now hoping he can regain some of the confidence that saw him consistently in the goals in the first half of the campaign.

"The last time I scored was in Dortmund. The goal tonight was particularly important for me as it helped me build-up my confidence," he told Bundesliga.com.

"I'm hoping that I can maintain this type of form and that I hopefully won't have to wait as long for my next goal."

Son was also hoping that Leverkusen could put a string of positive results together so they can finish as high as possible in the German top flight.

"There's still a lot of football to play this season. We can't be thinking too much about the standings, instead we've got to demonstrate just what we're capable of on the pitch and try and put in our best performances week-in, week-out," he added.

"If we manage to do that then it will all come together and we won't have to worry about the table. Hopefully that will continue."
