Lescott hoping Man City Champions League qualification will boost England chances

Joleon Lescott hopes Manchester City's Champions League qualification will boost his England hopes.

Spurs star Michael Dawson has played four times for England this season and did not book a holiday this week so there would be no clash with Saturday's game against Switzerland.

But Manchester City's Lescott, 28, was given the nod ahead of his rival.

He said: "When John Terry got injured Dawson was in there, so if I play in the Champions League, hopefully, I'll get the same chances with England.

"This season at City has given me massive confidence.

"It was massive to win the FA Cup and finish third in the Premier League.

"I started off quite slowly this season and didn't play as much as I'd have liked.

"You have to progress each season and I think I am a better player than a year ago."
