Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott expects to start for England in Montenegro on Tuesday.
Lescott believes he can become a permanent fixture and he will get another opportunity to stake his claim when his pairing with Chris Smalling is set to continue in Montenegro on Tuesday.
His international fortunes contrast sharply with those at his club, where Roberto Mancini has continually left him on the substitutes' bench.
"You've got to keep yourself prepared physically and I've been doing that," he said.
"I wasn't in the squad originally but Roy said he wouldn't have any qualms if he needed to call me in. Playing for England is the ultimate achievement of your career. That's 25 caps now, which is great.
"I think I was the oldest player on the pitch towards the end and the manager deemed it fit to give me the armband, which was a bonus. I've had the armband before - the first time was against Norway."
